At Acumium, we believe in taking care of people, doing good, and giving back. It’s part of our culture, and it is part of our lives. Thus far, our forays as a company into social good have included things like stuffing backpacks for kids at the start of the school year, donating non-perishable food around the holidays, and collecting coats for donation as the weather gets colder. We're building on our holiday outreach this year by adopting a family through the YWCA, and volunteering with the Empty Stocking Club.
In 2019, we’ll be adding to our social good portfolio with a hackathon. On some weekend TBD, our design, development, and marketing experts will volunteer their time to provide free work to a local business or nonprofit that's trying to make a difference in the world.
We’re calling it HackingKindness.
While the hackathon won't be until 2019, we’re kicking this off on Tuesday, November 27th, the date known as “Giving Tuesday,” by launching www.hackingkindness.com. This will be where we’ll share information about the hackathon and accept nominations from organizations who could use a digital boost in 2019. There are details we still need to firm up (it’s our first time organizing this, after all), but here’s what we can tell you so far.
Who is eligible?
Any businesses, organizations, or non-profits in the local Madison, Wisconsin, area who are doing good and trying to make a difference in the world. We know that’s broad criteria, but good takes many forms.
What do you need to do to be nominated?
Well…you mostly just need to navigate to www.hackingkindness.com and fill out an online form. You’ll tell us about what you (or the company you’re nominating) are trying to do to make the world a better, kinder, smarter place. We’ll also ask you to specify what type of work we could do for you that would help you the most. And yes, you can absolutely nominate your own organization or business.
How will we pick a winner?
We’ll review all the nominations that come in and will pick the one that our team feels we have the most opportunity to help. Right now, our plan is to select a single organization, but who knows, we could get ambitious and decide to add more.
What kind of work are we offering?
It’ll depend on what you need, but we’re offering expertise in five general areas: web design and development, search engine optimization (SEO), brand messaging, logo and creative asset design, and strategy and consulting. Because we only have a weekend, we’ll need to be realistic about what we take on, but we’ll do our best to get you something that will make a real difference.
When are nominations due? When will the hackathon happen?
We’ll be taking nominations through January 31, 2019, and will select our winning nomination by March 1, 2019. The hackathon will likely happen sometime in the summer.
How do I submit a nomination?
Go to www.hackingkindness.com and fill out the nomination form.
You may have heard that saying, “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” In 2019, we’re looking forward to sharing (and hacking) kindness by giving a little digital boost to a local business that’s working hard to make a difference. We welcome you to share this opportunity out with any businesses that could use our help.
